When we were looking at homes here the ads would say “Close to HEB.” We didn’t want to appear stupid so we never asked our agent what that was. [Read more]
Back to the Deschutes

Okay, back to the Deschutes beers that were sent to me for a review. I've already reviewed the Mirror Pond Pale Ale and the Cinder Cone Red back in May. Also back in May I tasted the Blacke Butte Porter, but didn't get around to writing up. But here are the notes I took: The immediate impression is a strong dose of chocolate. It settles on the tongue nicely, although the finish is mildly disappointing after the excellence of the Mirror Pond and Cinder Cone. There is a hint of licorice behind the chocolate. I'd give it a B.[Read more]

Another Austin blogger is reporting that offerings from the new (512) Brewing are now available in local bars. I look forward to trying them soon. Perhaps even this Saturday, for those of you who know what I'm talking about.Hello Austin, Hello Texas
So here we are in Austin Texas and it feels like we’ve lived here forever. We’ve visited Austin over the years and always felt that someday we might end up here. After exploring the options of California, Arizona, and Florida, we settled on Texas. But where in Texas? One day we looked at each other and said “Let’s go back to Austin.” We flew in to explore in December, fell in love with the area and bought a home! Austin won hands down. The time was now and Austin was the place!!!! In January we decided “What the hell!” and made this our first home and became “official Texans.” For Christmas everyone gave us Barnes and Noble gift cards. We used them to buy a home library of books about Texas and some specifically about the Austin Area. I read with delight “Keep Austin Weird” and every month I can’t wait for the next issue of Texas Monthly and Austin Monthly to see what new things I just have to do in my “new” home town and my new state. Hello Texas, Hello Austin. It’s warm here, the people are friendly and we just got here! No more ice and snow!!!
